What I learned building with Claude, and where you can learn too.

I'm Hisham, a cellular systems engineer who loves creating UIs with Claude. In my own time I build things with Claude and local AI models, and I write down what I learned, including what went wrong. Below are those lessons, and a few free things to learn from.

From a chat window to a home hub

Part 2 of my personal AI engine. In one month it became the place where receipts, our calendar, the smart home and my Claude Code sessions meet, and its tools started to plug in.

What I learned, entry by entry

Every entry is in English and Arabic.

  1. From a chat window to a home hub

Lesson: a tool registered in ten places is a security bug waiting to happen. Keep one registry.

    Local AIVibe coding
  2. A shared calendar on the TV

Lesson: a cheap SD card can freeze a whole computer. Keep constant writes in memory.

  3. Texting my own AI, end to end encrypted

Lesson: a message that was sent is not a message that was seen. Check on the phone, not in the logs.

    Local AIVibe coding
  4. Cloud vs. local LLM agents for lecture slides

Lesson: the skill's checker passed a deck that was still the template; a judge reading the slides caught it. A layout check is not a content check.

  5. One HTML file, a whole Keynote

Lesson: HTML is more than websites. One file can carry its words, its look and its behavior, and open anywhere.

  6. Two nails, two assistants

Lesson: the real takeaway had nothing to do with AI. When the tire light comes on, go look at your tires.

    Local AIVibe coding
  7. Bedtime stories for a three-month-old

Lesson: design from what a three-month-old can actually see, not from what looks lovely to adults.

    FamilyVibe coding
  8. Building Wireless 101

Lesson: AI writes clear lessons fast, but an engineer has to review every module for accuracy.

    Vibe coding
  9. Generating voice from text using local models

Lesson: write for the ear, and check the words, not just the file. Local voices now draft a whole book for free.

    Local AI
  10. Building a personal AI engine

Lesson: failures here announce themselves as successes, so fixes should make failure visible. Part 2 carries on the story.

  11. Building an interactive Islamic kids website

Lessons: kids' content demands higher quality, and bilingual is hard but worth it.

    FamilyVibe coding
  12. Building WirelessHub with Claude

Lesson: a detailed CLAUDE.md file makes every new session with Claude productive from the first minute.

    Vibe coding
  13. My journey, from Cairo to California

Where it started: wireless engineering, doctoral research, and the move into industry.
